16th Toru Giga Prague Kendo Cup 2007 & Kendo Seminar

which will take place in Prague, Czech Republic in September 27th to 30th 2007.

Here you can find the agenda of this event. Please note, that besides the seminar and a traditional tournament in open category, we decided this year to organize also women tournament.

Please note: If you pay in advance, you will have to pay SMALLER fees! Reduced fees are to be paid via bank transfer and must arrive no later than 20th September 2007. You can also pay the regular (higher) fee in cash on place at the registration desk.

Seminar fee:
600 CZK = approx. 21 EUR (payment in advance),
800 CZK = approx. 28 EUR (payment on place)


Tournament fee:

Open category:
500 CZK = approx. 18 EUR (payment in advance),
700 CZK = approx. 25 EUR (payment on place)

Women category:
200 CZK = approx. 7 EUR (payment in advance),
250 CZK = approx. 9 EUR (payment on place)

The fees include fruit and water during seminar and packed lunch on the day of tournament. The EUR prices are approximate and are subject to current exchange rate (approximately: 28,25 CZK / 1 EUR). In case of delayed registration (after 20th Sep) the competitors will have to fight for a “wildcard” position in the tournament pre-matches (see rules)!

Put your identification (name of the dojo, city, etc.) into text field of the bank order and BRING THE TRANSFER RECEIPT WITH YOU so that your payment can be recognized during registration.

Please note that we’d appreciate help of experienced kendokas, who would be willing and able to participate as referees on the tournament. Dress code for referees is hakama + keikogi. No fee will be required from those participants.

You will get the payment instructions during the registration process.

.accommodation & meeting point:

Accommodation will be arranged in sleeping bag in dojo, or upon your request, in a hostel (before August 31st). The hostel price is approx 200 to 400 CZK per person & night, depending on category. The accommodation details will be cleared individually after your registration.

Accomodation is in two separate places (both are located very close to the Sports Hall)

.Registration deadline

For those who require hostel accommodation, the deadline is: 31st August 2007. For those who will sleep in dojo or have their own accommodation, the deadline is 20th September 2007.

.tournament rules:

Tournament will follow the standard IKF/AJKF regulations (“Kendo match and its regulations”, revised edition 7th December 2006). In addition, several rules are to be specified as follows:

1. Participants
Open category tournament is open for any competitor regardless on sex and grade. Minimum age required is 15. Women category tournament is open for any women competitor regardless on grade. Minimum age required is 15.

2. Pools
Competitors will be drawn to pools. The first two competitors form each pool will qualify to elimination. Time limit for the match in the pool shall be 4 minutes, if not decided within this time, a hikiwake (draw) shall be declared. Number of victories in a pool decides, in case of equity, number of ippons scored decides. In case of equity of both criteria, additional match for one ippon (ippon-shobu) will take place to decide the order. The match time in pools may be subject to change upon actual conditions.

3. Pre-matches
There is a possibility to draw several (depending on the number of delayed registrations, typically 4) “wildcards”, i.e. tournament positions that are not occupied. Competitors, registered after deadline 20th Sep 2007 will be drawn into pre-matches system. The best competitors of these pre-matches will be then placed at the wildcard positions in the main tournament. The system of the pre-matches will be announced before their start.

4. Elimination
Time limit for the match in the elimination shall be 5 minutes. If not decided within this time, there will be one unlimited encho (extra time) until the victory ippon is reached. The match time in elimination may be subject to change upon actual conditions.

5. Third place
There will not be matches for the third place between defeated semi-finalists – two third places will be awarded

6. Zekken (name tag)
All competitors are required to have their last name written on their zekken (in roman letters).
